Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect on smelted.ai, how we use it and the choices you have. We collect what you type into our forms, and we never receive the datasets that sellers license.

The short version

  • We collect what you type into our forms, plus basic analytics about how people use the site.
  • We never receive, store or process the datasets that sellers license. Buyers and sellers exchange those directly.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use your form submissions to train AI models.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time. Email team@smelted.ai.

Who we are

Smelted (smelted.ai) represents companies that want to license internal records or source code to AI labs and other data buyers. We call these companies sellers. We list each seller’s data anonymously on our marketplace, review requests from buyers, and introduce approved buyers to the seller.

In this policy, we, us and our mean Smelted. You can reach us at team@smelted.ai.

What we collect

We collect personal information only when you fill in a form on this site.

Seller valuation form

On our valuation form we ask for your name, work email, phone number, role, company, company website and team size. We also ask about your company’s data, the systems it lives in and your rights to it. While you fill in the form, your answers are saved in your own browser (local storage) so you don’t lose them if you leave the page. They are cleared from your browser when you send the form.

Buyer forms

On our buyer page, the request access form and the Request access button on each listing, we ask for your name, email, organization, role, how you plan to use the data, and any notes you add, plus a phone number if you choose to give one. When you request access to a listing, we also record that you agreed to keep listing details confidential and to deal with the seller only through Smelted, and when you agreed. Our terms of use explain that agreement.

Partner and referral form

Advisors and investors can refer companies to us on our partner page. We ask for the partner’s own details (a phone number is optional) and the names and websites of the companies they refer. If someone refers your company, we receive your company’s name and website from them.

Booking a call

You can book a call with us through Calendly. Calendly handles the details you enter under its own privacy policy, and we receive your booking so we can hold the call.

Analytics

We use PostHog (its US cloud) and Vercel Web Analytics to see how people use the site: which pages they view, what they click and when they leave a page. We have set PostHog to create a profile for a person only once that person is identified. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies.

Seller datasets

Smelted never receives, stores or processes the datasets that sellers license. When we introduce an approved buyer to a seller, the buyer and seller sign an NDA directly with each other. The seller then shares any sample and delivers the data directly to the buyer.

This policy covers only the information you give us through this site.

How we use your information

We use what you send us to:

  • reply to you and set up calls;
  • review a seller’s answers and estimate what their data may be worth;
  • review buyer access requests and introduce approved buyers to sellers;
  • keep track of which partner referred which company;
  • understand how people use the site so we can improve it; and
  • protect the site from spam and abuse.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your form submissions to train AI models.

Who we share it with

We use a small set of services to run the site and handle what you send us:

  • Vercel hosts the site. Seller and buyer forms on the main site also keep a copy of each submission in a private Vercel Blob store that only our team can open.
  • Resend emails each form submission to our team. If that route isn’t available, your browser sends the submission to us through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co) instead.
  • Reply Desk is our CRM. Each submission is added there.
  • Slack may receive a notification to our team about a new submission.
  • Calendly handles call bookings.
  • PostHog and Vercel Web Analytics provide our site analytics.

When we introduce an approved buyer to a seller, we share the contact details each side needs to reach the other. We share personal information only as this policy describes, or when the law requires us to.
