For advisors and investors
Bring your companies’ data to competing buyers.
M&A advisors, investors and restructuring advisors refer companies to Smelted. We list each company’s data anonymously, run competing offers, and share our fee with you when a deal closes.

- Tail
- 24 months from the introduction
- Exclusivity
- None. Keep working with anyone you like

Who it’s for
One relationship can bring a whole portfolio.
M&A advisors and brokers
Add licensing revenue before your client goes to market.
A data license adds income from records the company already has, and the data stays theirs.
Private equity
A free review of which portfolio companies have data buyers pay for.
Send names and websites. We send back the companies worth pursuing, with a range for each.
Venture capital
When a company winds down, its code and records still have buyers.
Code repositories, tickets and docs from a closing company can be licensed instead of lost.
Restructuring and trustees
Data is an asset in a sale or wind-down. We find its buyers.
An anonymous listing and competing offers, run alongside the rest of the process.

Listing and close
Smelted lists the data anonymously and runs competing offers. Your share is paid when Smelted is paid.

Questions
Before you refer
- Does Smelted buy the data?
- No. Smelted represents the company. It lists the data anonymously, vets buyers and runs competing offers by a set date. The company signs the license directly with the buyer it chooses.
- Can a fund take a referral fee?
- Fund rules differ, and some funds must pass fees on to their investors. If a fee to your fund is a problem, we can give your portfolio companies a lower fee instead.
- What do you need from the companies?
- At first, a few minutes for the valuation form and a call. Nobody shares data until a buyer has signed an NDA with the company, and even then only a de-identified sample.
- Which companies fit best?
- Usually 50 or more staff with five or more years of records: support tickets, CRM history, project files, code or field and operations records.
